Garden Features

This page shows various elements that can add some interest to your landscape.

A cast iron fountain and pond viewed from the house entices people outside and is a focal point along a walk that meanders through the garden
Retaining walls add interest to gardens by formalising changes in level. In this photo the concrete blocks are softened by planting that spills over the top of the wall.

The smooth plane of the paving is interrupted by a strong vertical element – a water feature that provides a pleasant sound to the outdoor living area
An informal garden is broken up with a circle of bricks containing contrasting mulch and a natural stone birdbath.

A free flowing example of brick paving in a shape reflected from the house design. Not all paving needs to be square!
A concrete block retaining wall is able to curve through a garden and define different levels. Contrasting surfaces – gravel, woodchips and river pebbles provide interest even without planting.

A split level pond with a spillway is a feature seen from many areas of the house in this photo. Bullnose edge, sandstone capping emphasises the formal shape.
Random Castlemaine slate provides a beautiful texture and colour as a link between areas and also gives a clear view to the blue urn in this photo. In spring this urn is overhung with pink cherry blossom.

A compost bin doesn't need to be tucked away as an eyesore. Timber boards can be pulled out for access to each bay.
Access to a vegie patch through an eclectic gate and surrounding fence constructed of recycled materials.

Even small areas in the landscape can be highlighted. Here a timber screen and storage box is softened by the yucca foliage sitting on paving with a pebble inlay.
A large urn sitting in a base pond surrounded with box hedging is a terrific focal point in any garden.

A formal swimming pool design is complemented with mixed media surrounding materials. The timber deck is the main sitting area and paving is primarily for access. Glass pool fencing allows a view to surrounding trees while colorbond slats are used for privacy where needed.
